A Splinter Cell VR game could make its way to multiple headsets. According to a new report which attempts to break down statements made by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, the series could return to the limelight and the Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest headsets could be the devices that a game in the series will be playable on.
Right now there doesn't appear to be any Splinter Cell games actively in development, but Guillemot says there is a team at Ubisoft which is working to 'bring the brand back at some point.' He also mentions that there will be some sort of experiments that Ubisoft will be working with for the franchise, and that those will be on different devices.
This follows an earlier statement from Guillemot that good games may help virtual reality technology 'take off' and reach its full potential, as well as a rumor that Facebook may have a deal with Ubisoft to advance its VR efforts.
That supposed deal which is rumored to have been agreed upon, would include games in both the Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed franchises for Facebook's VR hardware, and these could be the experiments that Guillemot was referring to when speaking about the future of the Splinter Cell brand and what Ubisoft has planned for it.
Right now these are strictly rumors. Neither Ubisoft nor Facebook have mentioned anything in regards to a Splinter Cell VR game coming to Oculus headsets. The hints are there, though, and it's clear that Ubisoft does have some plans in mind for bringing the game to devices that are probably a less traditional platform, which would mean something other than normal PC and console titles.
Splinter Cell is a stealth game. You're primarily tasked with carrying out your mission assignments in secret and drawing as little attention to yourself as possible, sometimes without engaging in any combat at all. The game often has you put on night vision goggles to see things that are shrouded in darkness, allowing you to sneak by anyone at any time.
A Splinter Cell VR game could begin with you pulling the headset down over your eyes, much like the series' protagonist Sam Fisher does with his goggles. For fans of the series that could be a truly epic way to be transported into the world of a new game in the franchise.

It would not only probably feel cool to those playing it, but it would add new levels of realism and immersion that would make you feel more like Sam Fisher than ever before.
Whether or not Splinter Cell ever makes it to the VR platform is unknown. Guillemot appears to have an interest in VR, and he as well as the rest of the team at Ubisoft have plans for the series in some way that are new and different. This is alluded to with the use of the word 'experiments.' Of course it's worth keeping in mind that plans change. Even if there is a plan to bring Splinter Cell to Oculus, that doesn't mean it'll make it past planning stages.
